CLOUD STRIFE
Name: Cloud Strife
Nickname: Thunderhead
Canon or OC: Canon
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Age: 21
Species: SOLDIER-enhanced human.
Name of Homeworld: Gaia
Sexuality: Demi-bisexual.
Face Claim: N/A
Appearance: Cloud is a young man, twenty-one years of age, weighing in at roughly 140 lbs and 5'8" in height. His most striking features are his head of blond, spiky hair (often said to be reminiscent of a chocobo) and his eyes, glowing with mako green around the pupil and the iris a bright, brilliant blue. His build is fairly slender, however he has fairly broad shoulders and is well-toned and lean.
His outfit is the iconic SOLDIER uniform, that is, a black, sleeveless turtleneck made of a thick, tough material and baggy black pants. His belt goes up to just below his sternum, made of a thick leather material for defense and attaches to two suspenders. One of the suspenders, on his left side, attaches to a pauldron and he wears gauntlets on both hands, the one on the right bearing the SOLDIER band. Black combat boots and a single silver earring on his left ear complete the look.
Weapons: The Buster Sword: A weapon passed down to Cloud by Zack Fair, representing honor and hope. The broadsword is an enormous weapon, five to six feet long in length, one-edged and a foot wide in width. This means that it can also effectively be used as a shield due to the sheer size. Cloud is well-skilled with the blade, utilizing two distinct styles in combat: Operator and Punisher. One is focused on speed and utility while the other is all about sheer attacking power.
Powers/Magic Cloud uses Materia in order to cast spells, which are slotted into his equipment. In terms of magic, he favours Thunder and Fire, with both Materia equipped to the Buster Sword and refined to manifest the spells Thundaga and Firaga, both of which are spells which seek the target out before releasing powerful blasts of lightning and fire respectively. He's also capable of using Limit Breaks, powerful attacks that aim to stagger the enemy, breaking their defenses. Currently he only has access to two: Braver and Ascension. Braver is fairly basic, a powerful attack with which Cloud flips high into the air and then comes down with a single strike on the target with immense force. Ascension is a series of lightning-fast attacks, that ends with a powerful upwards thrust meant to send the target flying.
Physical Abilities: Naturally, Cloud comes with the usual SOLDIER enhancements - superhuman strength, speed and endurance. Compared to normal people, he can perform feats far beyond human strength, such as cutting a falling building in half, landing from heights that would kill almost any normal person and tanking hits with an enhanced healing factor. His speed and agility make him a deadly force to face on the battle field, capable of fighting effectively even when far outnumbered. His swordsmanship is highly impressive and with his ability to interweave spells in combat, he can take on enemies that would normally outmatch him.
Weaknesses: Although Cloud is an incredible fighter with fantastic physical capabilities, when it comes to Interpersonal skills he tends to falter. His strong desire to prove himself coupled with an abrasive personality makes it difficult for Cloud when interacting with others who aren't used to his personality.
He also suffers from strange headaches and mental breakdowns on occasion, most often when pressed about his past. His brain struggles to fill in the blanks where he suffers from memory loss and this can debilitate Cloud greatly, making him dizzy and unwell.
The Buster sword is an enormous weapon and this means that it's very difficult for Cloud to fight properly when he's stuck in small spaces. Generally speaking, unless he's in an open space, he's at a disadvantage due to the fact that the Buster sword will get stuck on walls and ceilings, preventing him from swinging properly.
Despite being a SOLDIER capable of inhuman feats, this doesn't mean that Cloud can just keep going forever. He's still human at the core and he's still capable of exhausting himself, getting sick and dying. The fact that he tends to push himself past his own limits and refuses to back down also means it's easy to manipulate the blond into a situation where he's out of his league. Finally, he can't simply cast spells continuously, he needs to recharge his mana between each cast and there's a hard limit to the amount he can cast in succession before he needs to use an ether or rest naturally.
Likes: Chocobos, training, his friends, motorcycles, music, being a hero, gil, being respected.
Dislikes: Pushy people, headaches, Sephiroth, Hojo, oversharing feelings, admitting weakness, dancing... cross dressing.
Friends/Relatives: Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Jesse, Biggs, Wedge.
Significant Other/Love Interest: N/A
Personality: Cloud is initially a self-described ex-SOLDIER, working as a mercenary with little interest in anything else except his next paycheck, however through the events of Remake, he grew as a person and began to view the world through a wider lens, rather than just himself. Although his desire for revenge against Sephiroth is a considerable driving force he has learned to become more empathetic and caring about the people he calls his friends, often putting their well-being before his own. Not that one is likely to see this side of him unless they grow close to Cloud, as he still struggles to open up to others. Although he still has much development ahead of him, he is slowly becoming the Cloud destined to defeat Sephiroth and save the planet.
For those who manage to get that battle-hardened and cold exterior, they will see that Cloud is actually quite soft-hearted and kind, a side of himself that he tries to hide from others. He is a thoughtful person and often takes notice when those around him are upset or worried, even if he struggles to offer his help or support in a straight forward manner. Loyalty is one of his strongest traits and combined with his bravery means that he will go to any length necessary to protect his friends, whether it's as simple as taking an attack in their stead or breaking into the secure headquarters of a tyrannical corporation.
This bravery is occasionally Cloud's downfall at times too. Out of the desire to prove himself, he can wind up in situations over his head and harm himself through sheer obstinacy, often getting stuck on a single idea and refusing to let go of it. He has a strong desire to prove himself, not just to the world but to himself too. He wants to become a hero and although the allure of fame and fortune is part of it, the truth is he is still searching for his own identity and a sense of self. His amnesia has made answering the question of who he is difficult and the pain caused when he thinks too much about it makes it difficult to confront. He needs his friends to support him and help him even if he refuses to admit it.
The refusal to admit his own weakness has led to Cloud developing an arrogant trait, although it has toned down through his adventures. He often refuses to accept help, even from his friends and finds it difficult to follow orders or work together with people that he doesn't respect or care about. When pushed, he can be quite rude and snarky, rejecting those with a higher authority and only giving respect once it's earned. His tendency to keep people at arm's length means he comes off as aloof and uncaring, rejecting most people's attempts to get close to him. He's also quite awkward during social interactions, never quite certain how to act around other people he doesn't know well, usually reverting to a stiff persona that struggles to express himself.
Although he is unaware of the truth, Cloud is actually technically only sixteen years old mentally, having missed five years of his life and development due to Hojo's experiments and his comatose state. This means that much of his social awkwardness is actually a result of Cloud trying to match up to the rest of his team mates, who are mentally matured and because of this, he often treats people around him differently depending on how they perceive him and how he wants them to treat him. This is also where a good deal of his desire to prove himself stems from, as he still remembers his childhood dream of becoming a hero and looking up to Sephiroth, his idol.
History: Although the exact specifics of it are yet known, Cloud is actually of a timeline that is capable of deviating from established history, with memories of a past life occasionally whispering through.
Born in Nibelheim, Cloud was a lonely kid who didn't seem to mesh well with the other children of the village, despite a desire to befriend a girl by the name of Tifa. After an incident in which Tifa was injured despite Cloud's best efforts, he left in order to join SOLDIER and prove himself as a hero, promising to come to Tifa's side if she was ever in danger. He failed the test to become SOLDIER and instead enlisted as an infantryman where he would go on several missions before meeting a man by the name of Zack Fair.
Eventually, together with Zack and Sephiroth, they returned on a mission to Nibelheim where Cloud hid his identity from Tifa. Unfortunately, during the events of the mission, Sephiroth discovered his true identity and went mad, burning down Nibelheim and slaughtering all of the villagers. Although Cloud was able to kill Sephiroth, he collapsed and was captured by Hojo to be used in experiments. Four years passed and Zack broke the two of them out of containment before dying a year later defending Cloud from Shinra. Tifa would then find a delirious Cloud at the train station, who was suffering from severe amnesia and created an illusionary life for himself based off of Zack who had named him as his living legacy.
From that point on, Cloud joined AVALANCHE and was sucked into events that would eventually decide the fate of the planet. He met many people, from Barret and his squad to the mysterious flower girl known as Aerith. As they traveled together, they would repeatedly encounter strange beings that either aided or impeded them and Cloud would continuously suffer from mental breakdowns as Sephiroth called to him. Fighting against Shinra, Cloud and the others would eventually fail to stop the corporation from dropping the plate of Sector 7, leading to Aerith's capture by Shinra. Determined to save her, they entered Shinra's headquarters and rescued both Aerith and one of Hojo's experiments, Red XIII. They also encountered Sephiroth who killed the president of Shinra.
When they fled from Shinra who was pursuing them, they found Sephiroth waiting for them. Entering a strange portal which Sephiroth called Destiny's Crossroads, they wound up altering destiny and Cloud faced off against Sephiroth, refusing to join his side to defy fate. Although he defeated the spectre, Cloud was unable to return to the normal world, instead finding himself falling through another mysterious portal that led to...
