Lucius was not surprised by Amos' confusion. The International Statute of Secrecy only applied to the wizarding world, after all.
"It is the law that keeps the wizarding world hidden from Muggles."
He couldn't see the birds causing too much of an issue.
"Indeed, I doubt many nests will be out in the open, though."

''I see about the International Statute of Secrecy. Are wizards afraid of Muggles stealing anything? Is it because Muggles aren't as good?'' His tone wasn't one of sarcasm. It happened to be one of genuine curiosity. ''What would happen if a Muggle did enter the wizarding world?''
*Don't imagine Merlin. Don't imagine Merlin. Don't imagine Merlin* he thought. One habit he attempted to break.
''I remember seeing bird eggs out in the open sometimes. Although, they really should be hidden. I guess they'll be fine as long as mothers are nearby. Always protecting them from predators.''
Shoulders went up again.
''Birds shouldn't have anything to worry about from us. The same with other animal mothers.''
Amos nodded and smiled.

"Indeed. I do not think so. Despite that being a suitable reason, it is not the case." He was more than happy for wizards and Muggles to remain separate. No wizarding bloodlines should be sullied by such filth. "They wouldn't be permitted to keep their memories of us."
Wizarding secrecy was of paramount importance.
"Indeed. I doubt open nests are in the jungle."
Birds didn't nest in the open in forests.
"I would say so."

''I see about it not being the case.'' Amos wondered if his guesses were still good. There seemed to be a lot for him to learn about the wizarding world.
''A Muggle not being allowed to keep memories? It doesn't seem like a terrible punishment to me.'' Unless maybe the Muggle befriended a wizard? Then Amos guessed that such a punishment would be terrible. ''I expected to hear something like a Muggle being executed or imprisoned.'' His shoulders rose.
''I remember seeing nests out in the open on branches in Kansas. I don't even see birds here. I just hear them. Maybe it's for the best.''
Amos attempted to disregard the heat again. He refused to look up if the sun's light was going to hurt his eyes. Not even the wide brim of his hat could protect him. He just had to look ahead.

"Indeed." At least the preacher seemed to catch on quick.
"It is not about punishment. It is more about secrecy." Not that Lucius was opposed to the punishment of Muggles. However, the majority of the wizarding world was in favor of simply modifying their memories. "We do not do such things, regrettably."
"Perhaps."
