Stumbling forward on shaking limbs, the Elktaur wheezed out a sickening gargle of a sound, choking the vocalizations and rendering them silent before he ever got a chance to form them. Oozing blackness bubbled around his lips as he choked, unable to draw breath around the insidious tar-like substance that splattered from his mouth. His eyes watered as the grotesque feeling of suffocation choked him and leaked the same insistent filth. They were sounds of impending death, lungs filled with putrid liquid that was only weakly expelled. His limbs buckled, hooves digging deep into the soil before he fell, crunching into the underbrush with a dull thud. He gargled, fingers clenching and unclenching in the muck and mire for only a few moments as more of that vile substance was weakly expelled but then he fell still, unmoving.
For a moment it would seem death had finally come to claim the Nowhere King, that all the pain and suffocation he’d caused the world had finally reached a point of retribution… but this world couldn’t be so lucky. Slowly flesh and muscle began to melt away, dripping off the impressive frame of the Elktaur until nothing existed save a slimy, stick pool of blackness that writhed and pulsated. It leached into the underbrush, wilting flowers and withering grass, it climbed the trees rotting the bark, killing the high canopy and spreading like an insidious disease until it began to rumble, rippling like water. A massive elk skull emerged from the blackness, pronged antlers stretching into the sky until they grew as tall as the trees. Its jaw cracked and snapped as spidery limbs with cloven hooves splayed out between the vegetation only for the horrific serpentine frame to pull off the ground and into the sky. Blackness poured from it’s skewed jaw into the trees but an ominous green light slowly swirled into it’s empty eye sockets, creating the illusion of eyes.
“At last…” The jaw never moved, the beast never appeared to speak and the voice seemed to originate from the center of the insidious beast. “How long has it been? How many years have I languished in Nowhere?” He pushed off, his monstrous frame trailing into the sky only for those hideous limbs to touch down on the spire he’d claimed dominion over. “I can rebuild the key, there are enough monstrosities here to rebuild the army.” Excitement broiled with the malice and seething hatred of the eldritch horror creating a potent cocktail that was only waylaid by a flash of green and the appearance of… a woman? Dark in her own right with powerful enough magic for him to taste, his limbs scaled down the mountain, his eyes flashing from their vacancy within his skull. He moved disturbingly fast for being so massive but didn’t loom over her like most might expect, instead he lowered his torso enough to meet her eyes. His lullaby echoed somewhere in the mountain, a black melody that was childish in tone but terrifying in lyrical quality. “Why have you come? Why are you here? I am already free.” A low growl deep and perilous. He hadn’t decided to kill her… but he also hadn’t decided to spare her. Sentimentality was a long forgotten emotion abandoned to everyone but her and even as powerful as this human seemed to be, she was not her.

It felt good to feel the wind through her wings. Maleficent hadn’t recalled the last time she had strayed this far from the castle. The one in Chiroptera city had become her new home, her new domain. She had her robes out before her that dangled down to her legs. Her horns decorated in black scaled while her hair tucked behind them not to get into her face. She had left everything behind and had wondered at all if she would be able to come back. Her wings were several feet long with spans that could evenly match the largest bird. Maleficent had seen just about everything in her time. Yet, one thing had already done that, losing what she had built up for with Sleeping Beauty. Still, she had come to know this world. Only one other had made it, and it was her crow friend. She felt the clouds brush past her and the azure sky around her as she hadn’t seen it blue in this long time. Then fairy saw something odd… Not one moon but three moons that were on the horizon. Now she knew she wasn’t home.
As Maleficent soared, she saw large spiraling snow-capped mountain tops reaching towards the heavens. These mountains looked ancient. The feel of them vibrated off her magic as if they were whispering. But then, only then, she froze. It was a lullaby that she hadn’t heard before. It didn’t come from her world. It felt alien and ancient. Yet, at the same time, it could lure anyone in. Who was to say it might be a trap? Cautiously, she began to follow the noise as she descended from the air. It almost felt like it belonged to a ghost. Maleficent could only view from afar, and only hear from afar. But never touch.
Maleficent got closer and closer to the ground. The oozing sludge and shallow, rotted, and withered grass. Trees once stood now rotted and hollow, almost blackened in appearance. It made Maleficent surprised a bit. Median wasn’t her home. it was full of life and full of happiness… While here, there was nothing but death. It felt like a leach had come into these worlds as she began to follow the path that came forward. Before her, she could only gasp a bit as she fell silent. A large monster stood before her. The creature appeared to be half elk and half-human reminding her of a centaur. Those creatures wouldn't have been so far-fetched from her world. The fairy remained still. With her emerald staff at her side. The rod grasped firmly in her hand, and the fairy feared no one. Maleficent maintained a calm posture and approached the beast. Such as she had done before with so many armies before her that stood in her way. Her crow friend was not that far behind. However, perhaps numbers didn’t matter here. Maleficent had been drawn here by the odd energy and the odd lullaby. She was going to get to the bottom of this one way or another. “I come because I heard that song. That melody is strange to me… But I see darkness has followed you just as it followed me,” She spoke. “I haven’t seen such darkness in some time.”
“My name is Maleficent. A fairy not from this world.” The fairy realized or noticed for a bit. He may haven't been entirely talking to her. Then who was he talking too?

Hush now, hide all you little ones, rush now, into the middle of Nowhere, singing and laughter will die.
The Nowhere King was an entity of imposing darkness, an oozing black mass of malice and anger, bitterness and betrayal, heartbreak and regret. His limbs were spidery and long, leading into sharp cloven hooves while his body twisted into the sky both serpentine and cruel. The only remnant of the Elktaur to remain was that ivory skull with antlers that stretched as tall as trees. Before she had come and cleaved him back together, the flesh of what he had been was beyond his control but now… now the weakness of his former self had dominion, could dare to suppress the eldritch horror of a monstrosity if he tried.
Dreamless sleep follows the Nowhere King, when his kingdom comes darkness is nigh
The bone creaked, the giant skull twisting with an almost jerk-like movement as the toxic green mist swirling in his empty orbital sockets seemed to shape and glare. “My lullaby? It echoes even here?” His six limbs shifted, the creak and crack of their impact on the stone an ominous backdrop as his massive skeletal skull twisted, neck stretching to impossible lengths as he turned towards the rotted spire where the haunted melody continued, carried by dead voices that he’d slaughtered and devoured throughout the Great War. An approving hum, reverberated through his body and he shoved off with an impressive amount of dexterity and grace. His misshapen body circled her almost lazily while the black ooze that dripped and splattered off his form slowly began to slink towards her. “Darkness… what am I cannot be so easily defined. Darkness and light have never existed in singular capacity, every soul has the atrocious capacity for both.” Alluring and deep, his baritone was melodic even as he slowly tightened the circle, pressing ever closer to her. The sticky black substance began to stretch and cloy to her feet, a warning or perhaps a threat. Difficult to say where he was concerned.
Quiet, crawl through the in between silent, secretive feeling of fearsome hatred that reaches the skies.
“I sense the dark magic that brews beneath your flesh, bubbling to be unleashed from it’s fleshy prison. You are… more than you appear.” Her name was inconsequential as all names were. Nothing more than a useless string of syllables to give children something to cling to when the darkness and demons encroached upon them. His massive hooves clanked against the stone but the gnarled spire stood strong, withstanding the proximity and power of the malicious entity. “I am the Nowhere King and once I find who has ripped us from our world… they will bleed. Suffering is all that awaits them.” He would systematically destroy everything they held dear, everything they loved and only when he’d gutted them heart and soul, would his jaws splay apart to devour the wretched soul. His life was not his own, it never had been, he’d only ever belonged to her and he would use every grain of hatred and malice within his twisted body to return and considering he;d nearly destroyed two worlds in the past, such wasn’t an idle threat. "How will you respond, I wonder?"
You will bring joy to the Nowhere King, when he sees the light leaving your eyes.

The echo of the song was a melody that sounded kind and peaceful, at least in the introduction. The lullaby spoke of dangerous things to come. Maleficent hadn’t heard such a thing before. Even the whispers of her great curse couldn’t sound something like this. The curse Maleficent put on Sleeping Beauty felt like such a long time ago as she released the ancient magic into her world. That magic that she would come later to regret. However, this was different from the oozing black liquid of evil that followed the beast with a skull-like head. He didn’t fear her. She had seen all kinds of creatures in her world. The sludge had tendrils that reminded her of thorny tendrils. Even the three soldiers who walked among them to guard her home were nothing to be fearful of in the fairy world. No amount of magic was going to salvage it. Maleficent knew that much. The fairy took the warning of the black tendrils and backed away on the decaying grounds. Maleficent knew better than to mess with magic or dangerous objects from her wisdom. The only thing she had ever feared was the material iron. "So you hear the melody too? I am not here to harm you. Lower your weapons." Maleficent spoke in a calm voice. "I was searching for where the lullaby was coming from." She explained herself.
Death and decay were all around her. She felt the slime as it came up across her feet as she took a step back. She had only brought leather souls to keep her feet from touching the ground. In her own time, she often didn’t wear shoes. Maleficent loved feeling the earth and grass under her feet. This magic felt distant and ancient.
“The way of which you speak is correct, darkness cannot live without the other of light… I think there is a bit of good and bad in all of us…” Maleficent said as she paused to speak. “I gave a good example of that took care of the beastie girl who lived far away, and yet I cursed her at the same time. Those filthy humans that wronged me and took my wings… I ask you to think of your actions and how they may affect others. I put a curse on a young girl and later regretted it. Instead, I cursed the whole kingdom.” Maleficent said as she put a hand on one of the feathers. So soft, so strong, so powerful and wise. Maleficent perhaps knew that they would once again be hers, she had longed that day where it had come, and Sleeping Beauty helped her regain the wings. The fairy had once lost. While this beast weighed heavily of death, anger, and despair, perhaps far ancient than her kingdom.
The winged fairy paused as she thought heard on her question to him. She didn't want to anger the beast. But to give a reasonable answer back. “A long time ago, I would’ve said yes to your suggestion, and I was full of anger and hate. What if you are wrong?” Maleficent asked. “What if this being who you seek isn’t human or living at all? Destroy it or even cause it to shatter into a thousand pieces? What if we can’t even return from where we came from? I fear that may be the case for us. These are all things to consider beast.” Maleficent said. Her kingdom is far away from the human world. She had only ever lived there and in her home far up on the rocks. Now she had a castle to be her own. She didn’t move or waiver.
“I never even heard your name. What do you call yourself?” Maleficent said as she knew someone had wronged her one time long ago. Someone took something very close. And it angered her so deeply. Even now, those memories left scars. And oftentimes, scars do not heal.

The creak and crack of bone as the massive beast twisted it’s skull to peer down at her was telling, an ominous silence that hung heavy between them as the light in it’s skeletal eyes nearly seemed to warble and give shape to a more stabilized pupil. “Hear it?” It was impossible for the eldritch horror to smile since he lacked the lips and musculature to do so, but a dark rumble of amusement seemed to pour out of his mockery of a body all the same. “I was it’s inspiration. It was a desperate whisper, a lullaby to warn the young and the old of what fate awaited them if the key was restored and the door to the rift was opened.” It wasn’t fair how alluring his voice was, how beautiful, but abruptly that spell was shattered as his limbs skittered down the rocks and he reared over the top of her, blunt teeth snapping together as he snarled. “I am the Nowhere King.” His body twisted, his serpentine frame expanding as more of that blackened goop dripped from his frame.
She asked him to withdraw his weaponry but the blackened entity of hatred and malice possessed no such tools and if she meant the corroding darkness that dripped and poured from his frame he wouldn’t offer the courtesy. He had been shackled and chained for too long and as much as he wished to consume a magical being as powerful as she to add her to the hoard, it was also a failsafe and a defense mechanism. He could and would destroy her if she tried anything. “Humanity will forever be defined by greed. They take, consume and corrupt everything around them. I am the byproduct of what that selfishness breeds. I belong Nowhere and so I will forge a place through blood and pain… more suffering, it all any of us truly deserves.” He was cruel, full of malice and seething hatred that could darken the skies and he wouldn’t pretend like he wasn’t… but he hadn’t always been that way and now that his soul was cleaved back together, he could feel the Elktaur resisting his dominion and it was this juxtaposition that saw him speaking at all rather than simply plunging into battle.
The faerie’s inquiry was a genuine one and while it might give the other pieces of his broken soul pause, it gave the Nowhere King only a harder resolution. “I care not!” A thunderous snap, cold and cruel. “My freedom has been stolen for too long, I will tolerate it no more.” Vengeance and a desire to be free were all the Nowhere King had left. He would not pretend to be anything greater than the rage and hatred that had corroded him so. Still… her logic was not of insanity and at her worlds, some measure of calm seemed to return to the creature. The glowing toxic green of his eyes seemed to waver if only because he didn’t have an answer. This world may not hold passages or corridors capable of being opened like the rift or the space between and if there were no doors to open or culprits to kill… the skeletal jaw creaked open, a roar shaking the very foundation of the mountain as the blackened goop stopped crowding the woman only to swirl and return to the great Eldritch Horror. That insidious black substance poured from the beasts jaws, blackening the skies and corroding the heavens above until it simply seemed to disintegrate, great pieces of it’s body seeping back into the mountain until no evidence of it’s gruesome form remained.
The silence was heavy and prolonged until the soft clatter of cloven hooves echoed behind the faerie.
“If there is no way to return from where we’ve come… then I imagine all of us will have to start anew.” The voice was lighter, not quite so deep and ominous and yet still the same. The Elktaur cut a powerful image himself but he could hardly compare to the monstrosity this woman had just borne witness too. “You’ll ah… you’ll have to forgive that obscene display. I am not always myself when that creature lurks near the surface.” The Elktaur was not a beast of violence, he never had been but he couldn’t quell the horrors in his soul. “I haven’t hurt you… have I?” His psyche was a tangled rats nest, a horror show without an off switch but that didn’t mean he had the right to terrorize everything that dared wander close. She would be disappointed and if he could not fulfill her wish by allowing her final act of retribution than the least he could do was honor her now... and that began with not killing everything that wandered into his sight line.

Maleficent was surprised had she impressed him in some way? One minute he seemed to want to destroy everything, then the centaur spoke of different things. The goop around her swirled and swayed. Yet she didn’t move. Even the fear didn’t come across her face. Maleficent had only feared and hated one man before in her life, and that was Stefan, but he was dead. He dropped down flat on the castle grounds by her own doing. Her revenge her forthcoming. Her wings never faltered as she felt them shift a bit as the goop surrounded her, then suddenly it went silent. She could tell Nowhere King had been seizing her up, testing her out.
Maleficent found a broken branch on the bottom of the ground using her magic, and a green aura appeared around the broken branch. The aura glowed a deep green as the broken part suddenly appeared to mend and heal itself. Though the dark and decay had caused most of the land to fall apart. There was nothing she could do to heal it. No amount of magic would cause it to repair it back.
“Yes, you are correct,” Maleficent said. “You didn’t hurt or harm me in any way.” The faerie admitted. “I have already started my life anew in a castle that is in a city far from here. The humans are too foolish to come and bother me. They believe in superstitions that the castle is haunted, so they stay away from me. In my homeland, I ruled the fairy world. Since no one else would ever step up. Protected it with harsh vines that covered along the wall. After the war and the fall of the king, I removed so those vines. So humans and fairy folk could live in harmony.” Maleficent said. Maleficent figured she could give more about herself. She wasn't afraid of him. She knew that he wouldn't hurt him.
Maleficent didn't seem at all surprised by No Where King's reaction. She would've wanted to destroy the monster that did this. But now, she was very mellow from her old ways. She had seen some light. Yet, she had made a promise or a deal towards Tex the strange cowboy that had shown up on her front steps not that long ago. She wasn't even sure mentioning him here was such a good idea. That was between her and Tex alone. Their business. She knew the crafty cowboy was planning something, soon she'd find out what it is.
"But you are right about the humans taking things. A foolish human took my wings. I was so angry at him I would've slain him where he stood... But I didn't other events happened." Maleficent didn't even want to show it but it had hurt her. Hurt her so deep that it was like a knife striking her.
“I am sorry about your fate and what happened to you. We are very similar to being wronged by humans. I wanted revenge and cursed a poor beastie girl. When I had cursed the whole village instead.” Maleficent admitted as she knew that it had been that awful curse. She had regretted it and tried to revoke it, but instead, it came anyways. Maleficent knew that the curse had happened and thus Beastie became Sleeping Beauty.
“It is strange how things work in such odd ways how we ended up here. But you didn’t hurt me. I am a lot stronger than I appear. You are no different.” Maleficent said as she meant towards the strength even if humans had hurt Nowhere King she could tell the anger wasn’t everything. He had caused harm to many. However, darkness couldn’t live without light. And the same could be said about the opposite. Maleficent was the same way many humans believed her to be evil. But she had taken care of her fairy folk and her beastie girl.

Peace such a paltry goal in the grand scheme of things. It was impossible to ever truly achieve because greed and malice dictated humanity and eventually it would consume the homeostasis and demand blood and war, destruction and chaos. Peace was a temporary illusion at best and a mere lullaby to aid one sleep at its worst. The Nowhere King had never craved unity or dominion, he wanted no subjugation or placation to atone at the sharp edge of a cloven hoof… he wanted suffering, to make those who’d seen fit to chain and strike his emaciated flesh for years to feel a fraction of the loneliness and betrayal that plagued his soul like an old ghost. Pain was the only universal language, suffering was the only plague felt throughout all living things and destruction was the only unity everyone was capable of feeling.
“A crude ambition built on the hope that others will abide by togetherness and unity. A fools dominion.” His voice was a haunted melody, forbidden, dark and twisted, not unlike the lullaby that still echoed in the labyrinth of tunnels, recoiling through the walls like a dark sonnet. Suffering was all that was left for him now. “Peace is naught but an illusion, a fragile mirror broken and shattered by the first introduction of greed. It’s ruination might begin small but it’s a consumption, infection that corrodes and corrupts until there is nothing left but misery, pain and chaos.” No other emotions lurked within the great beast and no words could sway him. This eldritch horror of a monstrosity was every negative emotion corrupted and twisted by powerful magic and then given physical form, agency in a world unprepared for his strength and oppression.
It was almost a pity this world had salvaged him… when he’d been so ready to die.
~~
As the Nowhere King vanished, reshaping into the Elktaur as his other half reclaimed some semblance of control, there was a terrifying moment where the two warred for dominion but finally settled back. In truth the Elktaur was no match for the vengeful, seething piece of his soul but in that malice he became predictable and if the Elktaur waited for the precise moment, he could wrangle back control… barely and at least for now. A soft flush stole across the Elktaur’s cheekbones and with a low chuckle he scratched the back of his head, disrupting the blue bits of hair. “Oh um… it’s not that simple, at least not for me. Humanity is not the only species that possess both good and bad. No one starts off evil and the beginning and the end are not always so easily followed.” His own story was needlessly complex and messy. There was nary a sin that didn’t embody it and yet that’s not why he was here or at least it wasn’t his intention.
“I cannot entirely blame humanity. I wronged myself long before anyone else ever got ahold of me.” It was clear that the Elktaur didn’t share the seething indescribable hatred of… his other half. Where the Nowhere King consumed and destroyed, the Elktaur merely wanted homeostasis. Not peace, no love, not friendship, just a moment in time where his psyche wasn’t trying to pull itself apart. A soft sigh trickled from his tongue as she confessed that he hadn’t hurt her. “Oh well… that’s good. Better than most who come into contact with the Nowhere King.” He wished he could say that was more of a joke but alas. “Who are you and why have you ventured so deep in the wilds?” The Elktaur moved closer, his frame gracefully navigating the rocks as if he’d done so his entire life, in this form he was comfortable and conscientious of his frame.

Her yellow-green eyes looked over towards Nowhere King. She didn’t even falter or move from her spot despite the darkness. She was used to it. Even embraced it at one point or another. She knew that it wasn't scary or frightening to her. “My name is Maleficent, and some have started to call me the Mistress of Evil. I came here because I heard your song… Or a mysterious song. It was a lullaby not from my world nor my dimension that I recognized.” Maleficent said. The fairy knew that Nowhere King and herself were a bit similar. Yet, different Humanity had wronged her. Stefano had wronged her by taking her wings. And because of that, she was angry and became evil. The fairy believed that the humans were the vile ones. For once, she had trusted one, and she learned to make the mistake of never doing that again.
“We are the same yet different at the same time. Maleficent came from evil. Coming from different lifestyles. And yet, in the end, we took our different paths.” Maleficent said. Maleficent world was protected by a wall of thorns. that acted as a barrier. One couldn’t penetrate the walls with axes, swords, and bows. Even a weak bit of fire wouldn’t be enough. It had all been controlled by magic. Maleficent did have to admit, she enjoyed taking care of those humans who threatened the wall of thorns. The army after army who tried to penetrate it never came through. Maleficent knew that she would have to find some way to recreate her homeland here. If anyone had survived. This land was dark and barely alive. Maleficent couldn't even feel it in her magic and her own abilities. Compared to her home world, this was different. It made her dearly miss it, just like some part of homesickness. However, she was going to have to make due with what she had, and eventually move on. What about her dearest Diaval and Sleeping Beauty? What about those ponds she loved to play with the tree people and the forest fairies? They were all memories now. Just simple and gone memories.
“I live in a castle. It was much like the one in my own time, but different. Dust-covered walls and cobwebs. Candles who haven't been lit in years, keeping the castle lit and warm. Whoever lived there ran away in fear. I’m afraid I don’t know who lived there. But didn’t matter to me. I took it for myself.” Maleficent said with a sigh as she knew that Nowhere King, find that odd or even a tiny bit ironic that she had lived in such a place. A woman who lived in a forest, away from others. Devoid of any humans. All but one.
“But tell me, Nowhere King, do you think you can change as I did? All it took was one person. One beastie.” Maleficent now redirects the answer towards her other acquaintance here. Then again, the world he came from sounded like it might’ve met a similar fate. They were the only ones that were the only ones left. And that was a shame.
All those fairies. All those creatures. The ones that protected Maleficent home and her forest were now gone. Maleficent felt remorse for they were her friends. She was truly alone. Not even Sleeping Beauty was here to save her.
“Yet, here we are all alone. I have seen many of the kind here starting to rebuild their lives. Is that even possible for the kinds of creatures like us?" She asked. Some of what she said was rhetorical. The rest had been real question. She knew the beasts like her and Nowhere King found their own way and make do with what they have. Maybe they would suffer in eternal darkness. Or find the light. It was a mystery even in itself. Maleficent would have to fight her way through. Joining Tex Hex and those other marauders at the time, seemed to be the best thing to do. Maleficent barely knew them. But she had a good feeling about them.
Maleficent called back to the one attempt to curse, Beauty and that alone had been almost like a tune. But it was evil and full of vengeance. This one spoke of love, hope, and despair. Those didn't mean Maleficent at all. It was meant more for the beast that stood before her. In a way, she felt sorry for him. Sorry that he was alone. "I feel sorry for you. You lost so much as did I. These are emotions even I can't comprehend very well."

The Elktaur nodded slowly, a mixture of understanding and unease clipping over the sturdy lines of his face. Ah… the lullaby. “It’s not something I wrote or ever wanted to be associated with but I suppose in the end, I deserved it.” A murmur low and almost regretful, he moved a touch closer if only so they didn’t have to raise their voices to converse. “I can’t remember who wrote it but it followed me, a haunted melody that forewarned those that lie in my… well, the Nowhere King’s path. I’m not, he’s not purely evil but it’s emotion warped and twisted out of shape and proportion by black magic.” A pause. “I realize… that’s not much better of an explanation but at present, it’s all I have.” At this point, it seemed pointless to hide that blackened side of his psyche when he could only control it for so long.
“We all have both inside of us I think. Good and bad.” It was a simplistic explanation perhaps but an honest one. Some of the things he’d done regardless if he’d been whole or not couldn’t be forgiven nor did they deserve to be… but he hadn’t asked to be brought here and aside from literally starving to death what could he do but try? “I’m sorry… you endured whatever you had to endure to wander down such a bleak path. I know the journey to seething rage is not a pleasant one.” His surely wasn’t, but he wasn’t ready to reveal how or why he was… that thing. At least not yet. She’d already gotten more than he intended to give to anyone. The only person who’d ever been given a true measure of his soul was her. And she was not here to dictate his continued existence or ruination.
Maleficent described her home, a towering skyscraper of musty mildew in the form of a great palace and the Elktaur was reminded of the castle he’d claimed as collateral. At the time he had no use or desire for such opulence but rather the blackened drive to take and consume everything his darkest enemy drew comfort in. Did he regret such bleak ambition, the invocation of suffering simply to cause pain? Not entirely. He’d suffered for so long under chains and shackles that it was hard to feel bad for his tormentor who was finally forced to feel some modicum of what he’d inflicted. “I haven’t claimed anything, at least not here. This mountain hardly counts, it’s where this world more or less dropped me.” He remembered his workshop from Centaurworld but… that was largely where his memory began and ended as far as a home was concerned.
Her inquiry was surprisingly earnest and while the Elktaur gave the prose it’s due diligence, he took far longer to answer than what was probably socially acceptable. “I think that depends on what parts, if any, we seek to rebuild.” The words were slow, almost like he was still thinking through his answer. “There is… not much of my history that I am proud of, at least not anymore.” There was pain in that answer even if he masked it well. Never let it be said that he wasn’t earnest… at least this part of him. “And you?”
He shook his head, pronged antlers rattling slightly at the gesture. “You shouldn’t. My suffering for what it was, is of my own making. I…I do not blame anyone else for what I have endured.” He could and to some degree he probably should but that seemed counterproductive and… not the path he wanted to wander down here. This was a second chance and if he was going to make something of it, than he wanted it to be something she could be proud of.
