The night was perfect. It was one of those nights where you could close your eyes and just know that everything was going to be ok. That there would be happy endings all around for everyone. Or so Aidan Alexander hoped as he rounded a curve on his bike. Leaning to the left and his left leg almost touching the ground as he swung the corner going far faster than he needed to. It didn't matter to him. He felt free for the first time in ages. He glanced to the right at the black water of the lake that looked darker through his tinted visor. Turning back to the dirt road he noticed the long straightaway that led up a large hill. With a smile he rolled the throttle and leaned over the handlebars of the bike, urging it forward. At the end of the long straight away he pumped the brakes and came to a stop at the top.
He sighed as he pulled off the black helmet and shook his hair to get rid of the helmet hair he now had. Quite a drive, but it looks like I'm almost there, he thinks as he stares ahead at the large city. It wasn't what he was expecting, but he honestly didn't know what to expect anymore. Ever since I went through that portal it's almost like I've gone far back in time, or to some kind of alternate universe. Maybe that's for the best, after all I am responsible for the deaths of my friends, and I'm beginning to wonder if that pain will ever heal. It's been 10 years since that incident, and the endless roaming and working backbreaking manual labor because its the only job that would accept me without asking too many questions hasn't made things any easier. I hope...no I need, to have that fresh start here. It's certainly far removed from the usual underground fighting rings and small towns I'm used too... Aidan thinks as he stretches his arms and swings his leg over the bike so he can stretch better. He then swings his brown pack and sleeping bag off his shoulders and squatted down next to it. Rummaging around in it for a bottle of water. Finding the item in question, he stood back up and took a long swig from the bottle.
It had been two and a half days since he had went through the portal. He had almost crashed upon going through, but after finally getting over the huge shock of his new world. He had settled down and began to warm up to it. He had noticed the large city far in the distance, and decided that he would make that his next destination. However, his bike wasn't equipped to travel the uneven ground, and he'd had one hell of a time until he'd finally found a road on the second day. After that it had been pretty smooth driving all the way up until his current location. He wasn't sure why he wanted to come here. But part of him felt like he had been called here. It just seemed right to him. I doubt they have gas though. he thinks as he looks down at the gauge and sees the red arrow firmly planted in the middle of the E. It should be enough to get me there though. after that, I'll have to find somewhere to stow it away. Aidan had grown very attacked to his bike, short the sword he carried wrapped up in his bedroll, it had been his only constant companion for the past 10 years. He turns from the city and looks back out across the vast lake.
"Yeah...and seeing this makes the whole trip worth it." he thought aloud as he sat his helmet on the bike and walked towards the end of the road. His brown boots kicking up small puffs of dust. He was dressed in his usual attire. Brown boots, black shirt, faded jeans, and a brown blazer. not exactly the best attire for riding. But he had dressed for comfort, knowing that his trip would be long, but not how long. He had a few extra changes of clothes stuffed in the pack, but they were more of less mirror images of what he was currently wearing.
He closes his eyes and feels the cool breeze as it blows across the valley and lake up to where he is standing. It feels more refreshing than ice water after training, and that clean nature smell is unlike anything he'd experienced up until this point in his life. It almost feels profound, and a strange sense of loss feels his heart as he thinks of his former comrades, and how he wishes they could be here with them. Tatsuya especially.. Aidan thinks as he remembers the 12 year old kid with his golden hair and blue eyes. A smile that could light up a room, and all the questions he would ask. He wanted to know everything. Always, and Aidan had found it annoying more than a time or two. But looking back on it, the kid strove so hard to be just like him.
"In the end he was better. He died saving me...saving us." Aidan thinks as he turns from the scene before him and looks back at his bike. He shakes his head as if to shrug off the thoughts that are always threatening to overwhelm his mind, before heading over to the bike, throwing a leg over it and kicking it back to life. He pulls his helmet back on and heads off toward the city. Hopefully, for that new start, with a trail of dust following in his wake.
