The cracks. These cracks were different than the walls on the side of the house. Bruno had tried to fix them as they came. But these were cracks in the sky. It had troubled him the moment he saw them. Had there been something else going on that was far more out of their control? Far more dangerous? Far more different than their understanding. Bruno had no idea that there were other dimensions.
Bruno had no idea about any of this. However, it made sense when he saw the visions. Bruno found himself half-buried in the sand. It covered his feet and hands, and he should be used to sand by now. The older man brushed himself off. At first, he thought he had gone back to his tower as there was sand everywhere. “Where… where am I?” He asked if one of the rats in his loyal companions had been shivering behind him in total fear. His eyes were transfixed on what was ahead of them. Double large bronze doors stood in their path if it looked like it was sealed for some time. It was just like the library in his vision.
This was perfect. Bruno's thoughts seemed to contradict the problem at hand. Bruno was lost and now very far from home. A Distant land, unknown to him. But he liked the idea of a library his family wouldn’t pester him, and he could truly be alone… But he did think he left everything behind to be here. He almost felt bad. And felt terrible about poor Mirabel.
Finally, he brushed himself off as he began to knock on the door. He didn’t do it once. But three times. Slowly the door creaked open, as if, it had been shut and rusted for some time. Bruno peered inside. His eyes were forced to shut his eyes. A burst of light from the broken ceiling dropped down on him. The very tower had an ancient feel. It was much older than his tower, where he had left all those years. “I don't think we’re home anymore. But I already like it here.” Bruno said. He noticed a large mahogany wooden table as books were lined up perfectly in the row. And he knocked on it again out of force of habit. Books were fluttering past, shuffling and fixing themselves from being out of place. Some books were piled on the mahogany table, such as someone had been reading there. The candle on the table was extinguished, some time ago. There was no sign of smoke. No warmth coming off of it.
“Why don’t we stay here? No one will bother me. No one will bother me anymore with their silly needs to see the future. I'll be alone. But I'll hae you guys.” He spoke. Bruno was about to take a step forward as he felt a crunch under his feet. That was when he noticed a part of the shards of the last vision that he had made it here. “Of course, some of the pieces came with me,” He mumbled. Bruno took the broken pieces and put them on the table. Those cracks were no cracks. He realized those portals opened up all over the place. He had no idea if this was a warning. Or doomsday that had yet to happen. "Someone is coming." That was when he froze, realizing he might not be alone in this library. Bruno heard a noise. Bruno turned around and felt the worst might happen. He covered a hand over the rat's mouth before slinking behind a bookcase. Well back into the shadows. It was then, that he realized he forgot the shards on the table. He had made his first mistake.
