He thought the chainsaw-wielding dog would bark in agreement, but instead, Freddy's growl turned into a scream that could wake the dead. The bastard son of a hundred maniacs couldn't slash at the time-bouncing hero quick enough when Jason swung his machete, knocking the fedora from his burnt head.
"MY FUCKIN' HAT!"
The nightmare demon's scream wasn't fueled by rage this time. Freddy screamed because he knew Jason was an unstoppable force of nature. No mortal ties to hold him back. But then again, so was the dream demon. There was nothing to fear except fear himself. Just as his dirty old hat was about to take a complete nosedive, he swooped in, plucking it from the air and plonking it back on his own head with a cheesed off look. "You're cuttin’ it rather close, kid!" he yelled menacingly. “What would mommy dear think of her little boy reading x-rated pornos. Look at the mess you made!” As Freddy swung at Jason, he only managed to give his hockey mask a gentle caress, causing sparks to fly from Freddy's blades in disappointment. Freddy, clearly not the strongest of the two, exposed his frustration as he bared his yellow teeth and exclaimed, "Why won't you die?"Turning his ire towards Ash, who had heroically whisked the bitch away from immediate danger, Freddy sneered, "Ahh, the prophesized one! Oh so scary! Who the hell doodled you into the book? That's what the little piglets call plot armor!” He looked at the three stooges as a twisted smile split his face. "You know what that means! Bad children deserve punishment, and what kind of daddy would I be if I didn't throw in a little discipline!” he sneered. He looked ready to attack, but the weasel decided to zip line his way to the book. “BWAHAHHA!” With a maniacal cackle and arms flailing like a deranged octopus, he bolted towards his prize like he was on a mission. If no one intervened, he was about to turn his crazy dream into a chaotic reality.

Despite his rage, Jason did take a pause as he surveyed the scene, keeping Freddy within his sights. He spared the other two, a man and a woman, a glance. The man, an older man, sported a strange metal arm like something out of one of the sci-fi movies people had been fond of when he was still alive. He seemed to watch Jason and Freddy like a mother staring at two toddlers tracking dirt onto her new white carpet. The woman, younger than the man by her side, sported thick wild hair that almost reminded him of his old-time period. He tilted his head to the side in confusion. Every time he had died and been revived, he would wake to discover the world around him had changed into something unrecognizable, but they didn't seem too far off from what was familiar. What did that mean for him? Had he gone backward somehow?
The two seemed familiar to Freddy, especially the woman. Which begged the question. . .
"Who are you?" The woman asked. He stared at her from within the inky blackness of his mask's eyeholes, offering no answer. Instead, he stared back wondering the same thing. His gaze snapped to the man by her side, he also felt hauntingly familiar somehow. He turned his back on the pair with a huff, his misty eyes glaring down at Freddy with the fury of a thousand suns.
"MY FUCKIN' HAT!"
As the dream demon screeched, Jason lunged for him again. The two seemed engaged in combat and for a moment he had forgotten their audience. Each little jest and comment made Jason's blood boil. As Freddy turned to face him Jason stilled.
He had been a seemingly eternal fued with the dream demon for decades. He knew exactly what Krueger was capable of. His breathing became shallow as he recalled how the burnt man had managed to reduce Jason to a mere child. Cowering as water seemed to pour all over him. A chill ran down his spine much to the deadite's surprise, he didn't know he could still feel this way.
He braced himself for Freddy's attack, only it never came. Instead he dashed for. . . a book? You little shi--
Despite his confusing he found himself chasing after Freddy, a large hand extended to grip at the demon wherever it could. Though as Freddy was nimble, Jason was not, and the burnt man slipped through his fingers. He let out an angry growl as he chucked the machete Freddy's direction, aiming for the back of his head.

"You're ruining my shot!" she protested, a thin trail of blood streaming from her nose. As her head swayed back, he effortlessly hoisted her by the arm, her legs almost dragging along as he led her towards the staircase, her grip on the gun stubbornly close and firm.
Given how badly she was reeling from the blow, she couldn’t muster a decent fight as Ash forcefully wrested the weapon from her grasp and scolded her. Typically outspoken, she was unable to unleash her usual fiery retorts due to the overwhelming pain, her gaze fixed on the sweater-wearing man from her nightmares.
Reluctant to interfere yet unwilling to abandon anyone to face the bogeyman alone, she positioned herself against the wall for support. With one foot poised on the stair step and the other on the cold basement floor, her heart beat wildly within her bosom, in perfect unison with her labored breaths. Fear clutched her tightly, threatening to still her heart in that very moment, a shocking realization that it did not cease.
Then she moved her eyes back to the much taller figure.
As her gaze met the dark, beady eyes peering out from behind the mask, they seemed to hold a silent query of their own, though she could not discern its meaning. The vulgar and repugnant words that Freddy hurled at this masked figure stirred a fierce anger within her, despite her weakened state. Could he, too, be a victim of Freddy's malice?
With trembling hands, she knelt down and removed the high heel from her slender foot, aiming it as best she could at Freddy while simultaneously a machete was flung in his direction, hoping both projectiles would find their mark. Collapsing to the ground, she crawled fervently towards the accursed book, teeth gritted, arm outstretched with palm open as she let out a desperate cry. “No you don’t!” she screeched.

Leaving the girl behind after ordering her to head up the stairs, Ash approached the two Deadites, who were now in a fight and seemed to know each other. Misery really does love company. The one looked like a burned-up soccer dad, while the other was…a goalie. Ash just assumed that he must be Canadian. He kept himself out of arm's reach from the two of them as they faced each other, with the larger one having his back to them. He could see a book lying on the ground close to the first one's feet, and he knew he had to get to it. Otherwise, something much worse than a couple of quarreling gimmicky Deadites would come out of those pages. While they were arguing, well one was arguing, and the other was just standing there; Ash slowly leaned down to reach for the book. However, just as he was about to grab it, the red lobster one spoke as he stood up quickly! "Hey, I'm a full-page spread, baby! The world's first pin-up! What did you get? One page that looked like a placemat some kid colored in at a Big Boy…" As the burned-up bacon man suddenly lunged for the book, Ash winced! "That's mine!" He leaped forward, grabbed hold of the book's other end, and was now engaged in a tug-of-war between himself and Mr. Crispy! "Give it over, ya overbaked-!" Ash yelled as his chainsaw revved, still holding the book with his other hand. He then heard something whistling in the wind and caught a glimpse of something shiny flying at him! "Oooo!!" Leaning back just in time, a large machete cut the air between him and the poster boy for fire safety and embedded itself into one of the beams near the stairs! Ash froze before looking slowly over at the goalie! "..Damn…" Suddenly, something hard hit him in the back of the head as a shoe bounced off of his skull! "OW!!" Feeling woozy, Ash wobbled a bit as his knees buckled slightly, barely keeping a grip on the book.
“…I….whhuh…ya..got the wrong…guy….” Shaking it off, he looked down, seeing a freakin HIGH HEEL on the ground as he glared over at Nancy.
"Hey Lady! Will you please stop helping me!!!"

A bunch of stuff and people came flying at him all at once. He wasn't as tough as he seemed in kids' dreams. Despite his smart aleck personality, he was at his weakest. A machete and a shoe were zooming towards him, thanks to a woman and deadite he'd terrorized before. When the bitch looked like she might mess things up for him, Freddy expected her to grab the book, but he didn't see Ash running in to stop him. He didn’t do much thinking up there, did he? Freddy was used to rowdy teens pleading for mercy, especially girls screaming the stripes off his sweater, but Ash was like a 1940s radio stuck on full blast with no volume knob in sight. The man wouldn’t throw insults on his own, knowing he was so close to the book he could almost taste it. He would let the old fart run his motor mouth because Freddy was going to shut it up for him very soon. What came out of his mouth was not the victorious laugh he’d been hoping for, but a pained howl as a sharp object tore through his arm. With surprise, he glanced sideways as the big bad blade flew past them at breakneck speed, watching his arm tumble to the ground near Nancy. Jason was that strong, Ash was that foolish, and Nancy was that bitch. The shoe meant for him bounced off the male with the huge chin. Looking around him, Freddy realized he could no longer hold on to the book and understood it was time to flee. With only one working arm and everything else working against him, he swore to return for the book later, after delivering a final glare of great rage towards an old enemy. None elicited as much hatred from him as she did. While Jason was a contender, she held a unique place in his chest full of souls. Always room for more. She was the first to defy and embarrass him, the first little girl to outwit him at the onset of his post-death reign of terror. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but nothing will ever kill me," he chuckled cruelly despite the pain of losing a limb, blood gushing from the wound. Running low on power, he delivered a brutal kick to her side, continuing to belittle her, a behavior he was sure Nancy had grown accustomed to. He had haunted her dreams long enough to know.
"Not even you,” he sneered. He ripped the weapon from the wall and flung it toward Ash before flashing one last twisted grin to Jason. Finally, he pressed down on the female’s neck with his heavy, grimy shoe. Freddy did something unexpected. He stopped using her for a doormat to flaunt the glinting blades on his glove as a warning, growling for the men to back off. It was time for him to make a break for it. The dream demon would have to deal with them at a later time. He felt a surge of power from the woman’s fear and belief in his existence as he reconsidered ending her life, at least for now. Exiting suddenly, he dashed out of the room and into the empty store. Sliding into an aisle, he came face to face with a trembling man who pleaded for his life. Looks like during the lockdown, he failed to get out. He had the honor of being his mortal vessel. His one way ticket out of here. “This reminds me of something. Hmm!” He pretended to think long and hard, though his confident eyes and wicked smile suggested otherwise. The trembling man was clueless, but Freddy, on the other hand, knew exactly what he meant. He was a cunning boy. With a scary grin, he unveiled his scheme in just one line, “You’ve got the body, and I’ve got the brains.” Let Freddy in!The scared customer’s screams ceased the moment Freddy took full control of the body. It was remarkably convenient how much of his unscarred self he beheld. Seconds after the ritual, he opened his green eyes and examined his weathered hands. Running his fingers through his blond hair, he brushed the deep lines of his face, noting the extreme smoothness of his skin. Although he felt like cackling triumphantly, he knew he had to be the frightened scaredy-cat, as that was his role to play. Droplets were still on Freddy's cheeks as he improvised his panic, steadying himself a stream of fake tears while he huddled into a ball and sobbed loudly. His performance was a ten out of ten. For who would ever suspect the sensitive, mild-mannered Charles Underwood? It wasn’t his fault he was left behind during the lockdown.

Jason huffed as his beloved machete imbedded itself into the wall. Perhaps his aim had gotten a bit rusty over the years. His cold, dead eyes never left Krueger even for a moment. The rest of the store became a blur as his vision tunneled. You. His jaw clenched beneath his mask. Strange as it may have sounded, his time in the underworld had been peaceful. No horny, drunken teenagers. No incompetent councilors. No trespassers or vagabonds to bother him. Just a deep dreamless, almost death-like slumber. Until you. The scent of Freddy’s rotten blood hung in the air, sparking Jason’s nerves with madness like a shark catching a whiff of blood.
“Not even you.”
The deadite met Freddy’s gaze with pure hatred. It was true. Try as he might, the little weasel always seemed to find a way to slip away. No. As Krueger tore his machete from the wall and swung for Ash, Jason stalked toward him. Hulking steps seemed to shake the ground as the mountain of a man gunned for Freddy, practically bulldozing through Ash to do so. You don’t get to get away this time.
Still, Freddy evaded him, his hand just missing the dream demon as he rushed out of the basement of this sorry excuse for a store. From deep within Jason’s chest, he bellowed. A deep, angry, animalistic sound as he pursued his nemesis up the stairs. He worried not for the woman who seemed to be clinging to them for dear life. She would either move from his path, or be crushed beneath his heels.
When he reached the top of the stairs his head snapped from side to side, scanning the store carefully for any sign of the demon. He paused as loud cries emanated from the opposite end of the store.
Loud stomps shook the contents of the store’s shelves as he closed in on the sound. Swiftly turning around to the other side of the shelf he reached a large gloved hand down to the figure, expecting to see the red and green clad man cowering before him. However, to his dismay, only a regular man cowered before him.
His heavy, frustrated breaths stilled as he stared at the man. No. He surveyed the hardware store again. NO! His hand shot for the man, picking him up roughly by the collar. He held the man up to his eyes, his feet now dangling a few inches off the ground. His chest heaved as his foggy eyes bore into the man’s. His head slightly tilted as he contemplated taking out his anger on this man here and now. Who could even stop him, after all?
A brief moment passed between the two as Jason made up his mind. Keeping the man’s. Shirt collar gripped tightly in his left hand, a frustrated guttural sound left him as he lobbed the man clear across the store. Not enough. Gripping the bottom of the nearest shelf he tore it from the ground and furiously threw it against a nearby display case.
Okay. Better.

When Freddy’s shoe connected with her, a sickening thud filled the room, followed by Nancy's agonized cries that seemed to echo off the walls.
As she spun across the floor, her body collided with the unforgiving surface, sending shards of torment through her already battered form. An involuntary whimper escaped her lips, a fragile note. Struggling to rise, Nancy found herself stomped down by the vice-like grip on her throat, crushing her hopes as surely as it crushed her windpipe.
Desperation fueled her movements as she fought against him, her body writhing and contorting in a primal dance of survival. Gasping for precious breath, she clawed at the leg that sought to snuff out her life. With eyes tightly shut, she let out a piercing scream that tore through the basement, sounding her anger.
"Goddamn you!" she snarled, her voice a razor-sharp retort. Through gritted teeth, Nancy fought to free herself from the oppressive weight bearing down upon her. But she knew how the story would end. It had happened before, and it was only a matter of time before history repeated itself—except this time, it didn't. He ran off, leaving her stunned and bewildered.
She intended on chasing after him, but the looming figure in the room surged forward in pursuit instead. While typically this wouldn't have stopped her, she found herself doing something odd. With unsteady steps, she rose to her feet and stood still, her blue eyes widening and brimming with tears. A scream, not her own, echoed in the tumult, failing to snap her out of her dismal view. Like a praying mantis, she remained rooted in place, before snatching the book from Mr. Williams’ hold unexpectedly and dashing past the older man in the blue shirt and with crazed bravado opened the book.
"There has to be a way to send him back," she gasped, the weight of her mistake sinking in, tears threatening to spill from the rage and fear she felt. "If Krueger gets out, we're screwed. He's going to kill us all!"
She was using every bit of her strength to maintain her stance while Jason lifted the screaming fellow, whom she hadn’t realized wasn’t Freddy (visually) at this point.
“I can’t decipher anything bound within these pages,” she realized softly, trying not to get hysterical. “Show me how to get rid of him. For good! If you do, I’ll do anything — just as long as it doesn’t compromise everything that’s right in the world. Please, give me a sign!”
In that shooting star moment, a body was flung across the store, crash-landing near Nancy like a clumsy comet. She gasped in surprise, leaping back and clutching the book to her chest.
"Oh, God," Nancy muttered, her voice tinged with worry as she distanced herself.
"What the hell are you doing here?” she demanded, her concern justified as she gazed at the person she had taken to be an innocent man lying before her. He had to be protected at once, but what could she do in her physical state?

The machete may have missed Ash, but it would appear as if he was not the target as it also passed through the shoulder of the dream guy, causing him to lose an arm in the process! Dark red blood gushed from the wound, hitting Ash square in the face and drenching him in red from his neck down to his work pants! Well, it wasn't the first time such a thing had happened. He's been doused in bodily fluid more times than Debbie did Dallas… (found in aisle 3) As the blood hit him in the face, Ash then dropped the chainsaw as its engine cut out before hitting the floor while still holding onto the book! "Oh, gag! It's in my mouth!" He said as he staggered backward, trying to wipe his eyes clean with his gauntlet arm. Meanwhile, the red Deadite was now pinning the woman to the floor with his heel! Unable to see, Ash made grabs for thin air, trying to find either the woman or the smart ass in the stripes! "Unng! Can't see! Someone make a noise here!" He then felt the book zip out of his hand as panic struck as he made a swing for whoever took it! When he missed, Ash could hear someone running up the wooden stairs! It was then he was shoulder-blocked by something big as he flew across the room, hitting the utility sink in the corner as it gushed water from the broken faucet! As he lay there, he heard another set of very heavy footsteps up the same stairs, as well as things being tossed around up there! Slowly getting to his feet, Ash leaned down and washed his face off with a shower sprayed from the broken faucet before leaning down and turning off the water supply. Taking in a few ragged breaths, he heard the woman speaking as he turned to glare up the steps before letting out a slight growl…Leaning down, he picked up the chainsaw, latched it onto the ring at the end of his arm, and slowly padded his way up the stairs.
Reaching the top, he winced at the damage that had been done! Not only did the red Deadite guy escape somehow, but now there was an entire shelf of X-rated Swedish sex toys in the Hardware section, causing Ash to throw both regular arm and chainsaw arm up in the air! "Aww, c'mon, I just did inventory! Or more so, Clem just did inventory!" Looking over at the woman trying to read the book written in human blood from over eight centuries ago, Ash rolled his eyes and stomped over to her! "Gimme that!" He said, snatching the book from her. "This book is a gateway to hell! It's not to be messed with and…." Turning his attention to the cowering customer near her, he paused in mid-sentence. Why is there always one perv that has to linger after closing? "Oh, for god's sake…" Hitting the lockdown button behind the counter as the doors and windows zipped open, Ash let out the customer, not realizing a particular dead guy had possessed him! "You! Beat your feet! I said we were closed half an hour ago…" Ash then looked towards the woman again to continue to chew her out! "In case you didn't notice, lady, this is all your fault! What were you even doing in the basement!? I swear if you work for that damned Ruby I…." Then Ash noticed the looming form of the other Deadite with the hockey mask as he stood straight up. Tucking the book under his right arm, Ash grabbed the woman by her wrist and pulled her behind him! Putting himself between her and a Deadite about the size of North Dakota. ".. Don't move.." He whispered back to Nancy as he backed up. "I'll handle this." Knowing he couldn't very well rev the chainsaw while holding onto her and the book, he decided to take a more diplomatic approach. And if that doesn't work, he can always toss the woman at him and make a break for it. We will call that plan B… "So uh…" Ash said with a slight cough as he smiled brightly at the giant Deadite before backing up slowly with Nancy in tow. Geez, did this guy corner the market on steroids when he was in hell? "Hey there, my fellow Kanuck! How aboot those hokey championships, eh? Buncha hosers! Am I right!?" He said in his best Canadian accent. "Yeah. Me and the missus here are gonna head out and bring back some nice beer for ya! I mean, poutine and milk in a bag! Yeah! So you hang out, and we will be right back…Go Maple Leafs!" He then leaned over to the woman and whispered harshly.
"Get to the door…."

Freddy hated feeling weak, his face revealing a real struggle as he lay on his side, grunting softly. He touched his cheek and locked eyes with the youngest person in the store, witnessing distress and tears welling in her blue eyes.
He leered at her through his splayed fingers, his dissociative stare outlived its welcome. The book and Nancy were within arm's reach, tempting him like ripe fruits on a tree of sin. With a burning bloodlust, he imagined torturing her in agonizing ways, prolonging the suffering to the point where death would appear merciful. ‘I'll kill you slow,’ Freddy thought, his breath heavier than necessary.
When she caught sight of him, he suddenly became aware of his murderous excitement. Without thinking much about it, he pressed his splayed hand to his chest, hiding any hint of strangeness. Freddy tried to appear harmless and weak, animating his shaking body and faked fear. His goal: get her closer, snatch the book, and drag her out. Not out of the goodness of his heart. He viewed her trust in strangers as pitiful, knowing betrayal was likely. The idea of having a heart was lost on him, but that suited his nature just fine.
Bitches deserve stitches.
He slowly offered his hand for her to take, his eyes begging for help, and had been thinking of something pitiful to say until he heard the chainsaw-wielding idiot bumble his way in. Freddy looked lowkey infuriated as the dumbbell wailed about inventory. He couldn’t disagree with that kind of pain. Retail was a dominant theme in many nightmares, with the next top fear involving food service. Who wanted to be a waitress forever? Certainly not Alice Johnson.
Freddy didn’t just have his attention on Ash; Ash also had his attention on him. Outside of dreams, he was no wizard, but he could make the mental connection between the knocked-over Swedish sex toys and the fact that this was where Freddy dove into the victim and possessed his body. Freddy grimaced. The dream demon was formerly bleeding out, not beating it out— by no means was he actually beating his meat! He got it all wrong! He wasn’t! He WASSNNNN’T! It was no easier dealt with when the proclaimed savior of the world told him to beat his feet. Freddy wanted to strangle him. Slash him up in slices thinner than deli cheese!
Freddy's head dropped as he spoke through gritted teeth, hiding his annoyance with a nervous pitch, "Yes, sir." Slowly, he rose from his seat and made his way to the door, his hand resting lightly on the handle. He hesitated, wanting to witness the aftermath before slipping away. Just a quick glance. A horrible smile played across his lips as he enjoyed the view. Nancy was getting a lot of heat from the old geezer, while Jason was about to face the wrath of the chainsaw. It was a satisfying sight for Freddy.
He couldn’t help the slight venom.
“Ah, so this all falls on your shoulders, does it? My word, you've truly made a mess of things, haven't you? What was all that chatter about the Krueger fella wiping us out?” He asked, rubbing salt into the gushing wound of the young lady. “Not only do you come across as a lunatic, but now you're just an all around evil, evil woman. What sane person would go after a book with the face of a pizza?”
What a pity!
"I pray, for all our sakes, that you can dream up a solution," he said piously, holding back a devilish wink as he proceeded to walk out the door a free man. He had been let off on a technicality, and now he was strolling out of yet another crime scene as if it were nothing.
