The night was cold and dark, and Ash could feel a sharp chill in his nether regions that he was sure were frozen over and were now clapping against each other like a pair of billiard balls! He regretted not fixing the heater in his Delta, and now he was freezing. To make matters worse, he was running out of gas! Having only put five bucks in the tank when the sign said the next gas station was two hundred miles away may not have been his best decision. However, he consoled himself that no drive was complete without beef jerky! Taking a bite of the salty snack, Ash pulled over after stuffing the jerky in his pocket and stepped out of the car in front of a set of iron gates. As he looked up, he saw a castle sitting on a hilltop that could have come right off the cover of Amityville Better Homes and Gardens. Suddenly, a flash of lightning struck behind the mansion, making him jump out of his skin! "Nice touch," he exclaimed, patting his chest to calm his overly beating heart. He then proceeded to open the back seat of his car and retrieve a duffle bag containing a shotgun and a chainsaw blade. "Never leave home without em," he muttered to himself. He walked towards the gate but was surprised to find a giant lock keeping it shut. After ensuring no one was watching, he used his right mechanical hand to crush and twist off the lock, breaking the latch. “Oh noooes. Something happened. Better get that fixed..ppftt.” Ash chuckled before shoving the gate open and began to the arduous trek up the long winding walkway to the castle…

Freddy looked out of place in this load of gothic luxury. He stepped out of his nice red convertible and carried flowers in his hand. He didn’t know who lived inside. He only knew the buffoon would be close by and had to play it off as a casual delivery. If he wanted the book, he had to keep an eye on the man who guarded it as well. He wouldn’t have bothered with him if it weren’t for the Necronomicon.
He had the stance of a cowboy, a tilt to much of his body, letting his arm hang as he stared at the roses in his hand. He was good with plants, always had been. The state of them left much to be desired. For a man so evil, his most peaceful hobby was gardening, and he had standards. If this were his own bouquet that he had raised himself, his wife would have looked at him nervously, but this wasn’t the case, and the simpering Loretta was no more. He had made sure of that years ago.
He wasn’t the badly burned figure that emerged from the book. The body he inhabited closely mirrored his past self from the 1960s in Springwood, engaging in sinister deeds until he couldn’t. Severed from the sensation of life from being dead so long, he felt cold, on the brink of shivers for the first time in years. He walked back to his car to put on a brown leather jacket that wouldn't offer him much warmth, but it was an upgrade over the shirt he had on.
“What I wouldn’t give for a smoke," he thought, feeling old urges resurface, and muttered this while jiggling his knee. Stopping everything he was doing, he peered at the man over his bouquet and grinned like a snake in a bush. Slipping one hand into his pocket, he allowed the trespasser to do the dirty work on his behalf. After Ash finished, Freddy trailed behind, emitting a slow and eerie whistle. It was a melody that sounded a lot like the old Jack-in-the-box toys the kids used to play with.
Freddy would only slow down if Ash did. If Ash stopped at any point, Freddy would pause a short distance away and mute the whistling altogether, "I won't tell if you won’t," he whispered, moving the bouquet away from his face to show a less sinister smile and a tuft of blond hair on his head. Keeping things light, he invented a story, "I'm playing delivery boy for a friend who's shy to a fault. Just thought I'd lend a hand.”

Alcina had never felt such a mix of emotions in her long life. The unnaturally tall woman felt a great remorse and mournful feeling, the loss of her daughters, her only family, three women who had become like flesh and blood to her, tore at her heart. Following this, Alcina felt unmeasurable fury and rage, a rage focused on one insignificant worm who had invaded her majestic, gothic home.
Ooooh that man-thing! Ethan Winters...She had had the man in her grasp, held him by the neck where she could feel the pulse of his life, hearing the thumping of his beating heart as they came face-to-face, how his flesh and organs gave way so easily as she impaled him with her talons. She had been so close to getting her sweet revenge, so close to seeing the light fade from those eyes. Yet, here she was, torn away from her chances of revenge and getting her daughters proper justice. Now she and her castle had become nestled in a mysterious region, a world she did not recognize, only there merely a few weeks as Alcina tried to come to terms with these new developments. It was infuriating knowing she might never have that opportunity again, yet there was no denying that there may also be a different opportunity here. She felt no draw of the Mold, no fleeting feelings of the network binding her to Miranda and the Dark God. No siblings she did not ask for, no villagers to sacrifice, no Winters family.
No, Dimitrescu had discovered she was on her own.
With efforts to keep herself distracted, Alcina had set about tending to her castle, erasing the remnants of what she had lost and repairing the damage that had been done. Rather than her usual Victorian style dress, she had donned a black sleeveless rockability style dress reaching her knees with a low neckline paired with black heels, dark makeup and bloodred lipstick, her hair done up in an elegant bun. It was in her own way symbolizing her mourning yet keeping her otherwordly elegance intact. At the time, Alcina was setting up the regal dining room, placing a full table of plates and eating utensils, her own personal goblet left at the head of the table filled with her specialized wine and a single elegant looking bottle beside it half empty. Ordinarily, such menial tasks were assigned to her servants and caretakers, people beneath her and at her every command. But with no longer having such support, Alcina had resorted to handle such tasks all her own, something she had done prior to becoming one of the Four Lords.
But it was as the tall woman was finishing the final placement did her heightened hearing catch the sound of whistling, a tune akin to that of a Jack-in-the-Box she often heard as a child. Interest piqued, Alcina finished her placement before moving towards the window, spotting two individuals approaching the front doors of her castle, a wicked grin forming on her delicate features, "Well, well, guess my own entertainment comes to me willingly." She mused to herself before moving swiftly from the dining room.

As Ash reached the top of the hill on which the castle was perched, he leaned a hand against one of the gargoyles guarding the steps to the door and wheezed. Hills had become much harder with his age and about a thousand cheap Shemps. After catching his breath, Ash looked up at the giant wooden and iron doors. He was about to knock but then heard a faint sound. Looking over his shoulder, he saw a lanky silhouette and turned with a start about to make a grab for his duffle! He paused before letting out a sigh of relief! It was just some lanky-looking guy! He was so used to being snuck up on by Deadites that half the time, he was prepared to just saw the head right off of anyone standing behind him. Come to think of it, he really needs to send an apology letter to that mailman’s family. The guy stood there holding a large handful of flowers, and a really weird hey-step-into-my-unmarked-white-van smile as Ash winced a little. “Uh. Sure, makes sense.” He smiled with a nod like this was totally normal. “Just delivering flowers to a creepy castle in the middle of the night for a friend. Gotcha.” Ash clicked and then pointed at him before turning back towards the door, raising his eyebrows, and making a face. “…oookaaay…” Then again, he was also carrying a bag full of weapons, so who looked more suspicious out of the two of them? He then reached up and grabbed hold of the large ring door knocker and pulled it forward before slamming it into the door a few times. Then came the awkward standing-in-silence phase as he held his hands in front of him, waiting for someone to answer. Every so often, looking back at the lanky guy and giving a small smile and nod before looking back at the doors, pleading to whatever deity was listening for someone to answer. Thankfully, someone took pity after what felt like an eternity as the doors unlatched and swung open. Ash raised a brow, however, and leaned to one side, seeing no one behind the doors… “Huh. Must be some of them fancy automatic doors…” He said like every castle had them as he stepped inside. “Heeelllooo. Uh yeah. Sorry to bother anyone in here. Just wondering if I could get some gas? Or maybe a phone?” he then glanced behind him at the lanky guy for a second before looking back. “…place an amber alert….” When no one answered, he dropped his hands to his sides. “Weird. Well, someone’s got to live here. Candles are lit, and I feel heat from a fire. Not a speck of dust…”

Freddy's skinny build and bodily youth (he looked like he could have been forty) compared to the other man gave him some durability, albeit not by much. He observed with amusement as the male struggled to catch his breath, faking his concern by cocking his head and raising an inquisitive eyebrow, as if thinking… should he make the cheeky comment about him needing life support or not?
It would have been true to his character to have said this because he didn’t have a single caring bone in his body; he wasn’t above pulling the plug with a smile and a song if things came down to that. Freddy just didn’t want to clue anyone in to that side of him. It was just better to keep that joke to himself. He was supposed to be a harmless, lovable guy— just until he got his hands on that damn book!
With a hardly contained smirk, Freddy leaned in and spoke in a voice that wanted to concoct another falsehood, "Special delivery," he affirmed, but he wasn’t done talking yet.
"In my time, young lads had to serenade their sweethearts, hand-deliver the flowers, meet the folks, you know, make a good impression," he recalled, thinking back to his late wife.
"As for the friend I'm helping out," he shook his head with a chuckle, "he's off to a rough start. No name, no face shown. The challenges of courtship in a tech-savvy world..."
Before Freddy could ask what his excuse for being there might have been and question the bag of goodies, the doors swung open, showing nothing except the interior of the castle. Instead of wide eyes and a typical reaction, a creepy kind of calmness emanated from him. The situation didn't justify an exaggerated response of fear. It also didn’t justify the next thing to come out of his mouth.
"Knock, knock. Who's there?" Freddy whispered with an unsettling smile, briefly breaking his waning mask. It was hard being empathetic when he was devoid of empathy.
He didn’t step in when he was supposed to. The suspicious circumstances of their entry suggested that he should be slightly wary and observe Ash. Would something grab him out of nowhere and drag him across the spotless floor to torment him later? He got a little giddy imagining it. It would make things easier for Freddy to snatch the book.
“Looks like I can’t alert Amber,” he joked, with the flowers still in his hand. “Should we try code Adam?”
