"I am more than capable of defending myself. Most wizards are able to fight alone. I only came here to collect ingredients. Possibly. It was hardly live-saving, however." He raised an eyebrow.
"Magic is not something that is taught. Magic is innate. The only teaching comes from being taught how to control it."
He was still skeptical about someone running his errands. "I haven't actually agreed to it," Lucius pointed out.

One eye widened for a few seconds. ''Most wizards, hmmm?'' Amos remembered his bad habit of underestimating enemies. Opening himself up to any physical or mental attack. Assuming how weak opponents were. ''I'm trying to be careful about not underestimating anything.''
''There aren't any magical teachers? I can control any sort of magic.''
There Amos went again.
Maybe just as long as the magic didn't consist of x-rays or extreme heat.
As for Lucius not agreeing to it exactly?
''Oh. My apologies.'' Amos bit his lip.

He raised an eyebrow. "Yes, most wizards." Of course, there some who could not defend themselves properly, but Lucius was not one of them. "That would be wise."
Lucius blinked at the question. "Of course there are teachers of magic. However, only those who are born with magic can study it."
Lucius believed that only those of magical stock were worthy of studying magic.
"I accept your apology." He gave Amos a nod of feigned politeness.

''I see about those born with magic studying it. Well, I have other abilities. Shape-shifting. Tentacles. Preaching,'' Amos said. Magic did seem fascinating.
Amos smiled when his apology was accepted. ''It's good to know,'' he said. Amos gave one nod. The heat was no longer remembered. Not a whole lot. At least he didn't sway a lot this time.
Amos then started to frown.
''I would mostly like to find out how to flee from this area. Maybe a cooler place.''

"Indeed. I see," Lucius replied. He didn't see how this man would be of much use.
"Indeed," he agreed. Lucius gave a small nod.
Lucius raised an eyebrow at the frown.
"Unless you are able to travel long distances quickly, you will need to locate a fast travel portal."

''Skills that are useful to me,'' Amos muttered. Then again, he usually hesitated to shape-shift. Why tear his human form apart? Preaching was just useful if others heard him. There were rare moments when people refused to hear his sermons and just departed. To his dismay.
''Well, I can't run in my current condition. My usual condition? Maybe. Even in church shoes. We'll find the fast travel portal. It has to be here.''
Amos was just babbling. He cursed the heat. His state of exhaustion.

"I don't doubt that," Lucius remarked. While he doubted he could make use of such skills, perhaps they were better suited for the preacher's own goals.
"I do not expect you to. It shouldn't be hard to find. These portals are everywhere."
Lucius was unfazed by the babbling. He simply wished to collect the rest of the ingredients.

Amos wondered if he actually did have to make peace with the idea of not being with Unity again. The thought crossed his mind occasionally.
''Then a portal should bring us to our worlds.'' Amos frowned another time. ''Then again, the portals could also place us in another world. Even return us to this one,'' he murmured. His shoulders rose slowly. Amos ran a hand through his long hair.
''Could the ingredients be in another area?''

Lucius was not averse to working alone. However, he still missed his family.
"I don't think the portals work like that." Lucius raised an eyebrow. "I believe they are simply a method of transport in this world. As far as I know, travel off this world is impossible," he stated smoothly.
"I doubt it, I believe this jungle should have what I need."

''Then I won't be with my master.'' Amos bit his lip while worry appeared in his dark eyes. ''Master gave me a sense of purpose. A place,'' he murmured. Amos ran a hand through his long hair. ''Master...''
The preacher was then thoughtful for a second.
''If I can locate other forms of unity here...''
In a way, Amos did find unity. Not his master, but someone he could be with. Were they going to find what they desired sooner or later? He didn't really know.

"Your master could potentially end up here." Lucius was unfazed by the preacher's concerns. "This world pulls in people from anywhere. Having someone from your world show up is a possibility," he pointed out. "Hmmm."
The wizard raised an eyebrow.
"I suppose that could happen."

''If I could locate my master?'' Amos frowned and placed a finger under his mouth. ''Humans? Creatures? Aliens?'' Unity would have been impossible to miss. A large alien with more than a handful of tentacles and eyes.
''I haven't succeeded in locating any groups. None that I know of.''
Amos was thoughtful again.
''I'm attempting to remember.''

"It would be possible if they were to show up here." Lucius wasn't planning on helping Amos in that department, though. "Any of those could show up here." This world was a strange place. Anyone and anything could be brought here.
"I wouldn't know if there are any here. I have not associated myself with any organizations thus far."
Lucius had mostly dealt with clients on their own.
"I see."

Amos kept the possibility of crossing paths with his master in mind. ''Maybe I'll even come across someone from Smallville.'' Then there were his rare trips to Metropolis. He didn't and couldn't exactly remember anyone from Metropolis. There appeared to be very few faces that Reverend Howell was able to remember. Other than his parents in Kansas.
''I would remember being in a group, though.''
Amos just shrugged.
''I'm a bit shocked about the heat not sapping every ounce of strength.'' How long would he remain standing, though? Something he wasn't sure about.

Lucius wondered if his own family would show up here. "It could happen." Not that he would know if it did. He preferred to associate with magical folk. Non-magical people were beneath him.
"I would imagine so."
Lucius raised an eyebrow.
"Perhaps you are stronger than you realize." After all, it was easy to underestimate one's own strength. Not that he did, of course.
